Kids Clutter Solution

When you have kids, you have messes.  Somehow you just have to embrace those messes.  I definitely want my kids to have fun and play with their toys, but I don't want the clean up to be difficult for them or for me.

When we started redoing their room, I wanted it to house their things of course, but I didn't want them to be an eyesore either.  When we chose to create an "entertainment center" with shelves and the cube system, I knew the shelves would be the death of me.  A daily struggle to keep it looking nice which is no fun for anyone.  So what did I do?  I Figure out a way to make their things accessible and still look nice in the room.

I share with you today an easy and inexpensive way to hide the kid clutter.
I hope you find inspiration and enjoy the tutorial!

Farmhouse Window and Matching Pallet Shutters

I am super super lucky when it comes to old farmhouse windows.  My hubby has a family member who is a window installer and brings me old windows when he finds cool ones or he calls and asks if I need more.  They literally throw them into the dumpster if no one takes them.
 How sad is that?

My good friend wanted a set of a farmhouse window and matching shutters for a wall in her home.  I have plenty of windows right now and let her choose which one.  The shutters were made from reclaimed pallet wood.  I love the way they turned out.  It's such a custom look since I was able to stain them all the same color.

You get a two-for deal on this tutorial.  I share with you how I worked on both of these projects in the video linked below.  I hope you enjoy!

DIY Easy Moss Orbs

This DIY came about when I wanted something different for the tops of my candle sticks.  Candles never would stay sitting flat on the tapered glass tops and I didn't want to keep having to fix them, so the idea of something round came to mind.  I was on a Rae Dunn hunt at Marshall's when I came across a bag of live moss.  It was a beautiful bright green.  It just screamed spring at me.  One bag for $2.99, yep, can't pass that up.

I was lucky and found some old styrofoam balls in my craft supply stash and grabbed my glue gun.

This DIY is definitely super easy and super simple.  My favorite kind of do it yourself project.  I did create a video to share with you how these beautiful orbs came together and to share just how quick you can make your own home decor quickly.
I hope you enjoy!

IKEA MYDAL Bunk Beds

We were in the market for some bunk beds for our kiddos bedroom.  I hit the yard sale pages on facebook daily looking for some that were under our budget and that could be restored if need be.  Can you believe people want $500 for USED bunk beds??  None the less, my search was not successful.  I checked one of my favorite places, IKEA.  The MYDAL bunk beds were exactly what I was looking for and also in budget.
I love that they are made of study real wood and that I can eventually paint them or stain them if I want.  You can't beat $169 for new wood bunk beds.  Then came the part where you have to put the bunk beds together, and we all know how fun IKEA furniture is to assemble.  Same in this case.
It took all of us working on it for about two hours to complete it.  It was a fun family project though.  The kids enjoyed not only watching their bed come together but also helping in the process.  That was pretty neat.
In the end it was a success.  My advice if you are putting this together, open both of the boxes and organize all the pieces.  We thought you put box one together, then move onto box two... nope.  My other advice is to have help.  I'm sure one person could do this just fine, but it will go much faster with at least two people and it makes the final assembly much easier with extra hands.
All in all, this is a great piece of furniture!  Our kids love their new bunk beds!  I love that it allows for extra floor space for them to play instead of having two traditional twin beds in their room too.
I video taped the whole process in fast speed so you can see our 2 hours of building cut down into under 7 minutes.  I hope you enjoy!

FAQ's Answered

The whole reason I started my YouTube channel was to help others with their DIY projects and also to inspire others that they can do this too!
I've really really enjoyed this whole process.  The videos are made just to show some of the custom orders and my own projects I do around my own house.  I understand that not all the details are always captured and I don't always explain every step in the process, so I do get a lot of questions.  I am always more than happy to answer questions that are posted in the comments section of my tutorial on YouTube.
I decided to throw up a quick video requesting anyone's questions that they might have.  I also wanted to touch on some of the most frequently asked questions that I get on a regular bases.  I liked that in this video I could explain in more detail as I was answering questions and that I could also throw this video up where lots of people would see it instead of answering the question for one person, then getting the question again from someone else.
So with all that said, I hope that this video helps clear up some questions as you have been watching my DIY tutorials.
Hope you enjoy!

DIY Aged Metal with Vinegar

There are a couple of reasons I do these crazy things, like experiment with vinegar.  First, I can never find exactly what I am looking for so I end up having to make it myself anyway.  Second, I also always always always try to use what I have on hand before I go out buying new things.

In the case of this DIY, I had this bucket on hand, it was the perfect size, just not the right look.  So I started researching how to age it myself.  I found lots of options, some where a little crazy (toilet bowl cleaner??), this one was the most simple.  One ingredient and BOOM - amazing results.

I'm sure different metals create different results (maybe no results at all); however, for me personally this worked great!

I share with you in my DIY video below the step by step of how easy this really is.
I hope you enjoy!

DIY Wood Floating Shelves

When you have odd ball walls in your home, you have to get creative.  This was just an odd space that I never quite knew what to do with.  It's in the entry, next to the bathroom door and my daughter's bedroom door, and to top it off it's also next to an angled wall.  I wanted something that wouldn't get knocked over and it couldn't stick too far out.  I couldn't do a gallery wall because it's not far from my living room that already had a gallery display.  I wanted something clean and organized too.

That's a lot to want, right?  So for the longest time I just never liked what I had there.  I came across THIS POST (from the Thrift & Chic blog) for $5.00 floating shelves.  I read over the instructions and liked the price tag, then realized it was a basic design I could definitely handle.

You'll see in my DIY video below how easy they really are.  I did have my hubby help install, it was just much easier with two hands, and he likes to use the power tools once in awhile too ;-)
I hope you enjoy the start to finish tutorial I am including below!

Valentine's Day Decor Home Tour

I am always one to go all out with the decorating, especially for the holiday's.  This year I have been working hard on changing my decor over to that gorgeous rustic farmhouse style and I didn't want Valentine's Day to explode all over the place.  So instead I added subtle little touches of red and hearts to recognize this beloved holiday, yet still not step on the toes of my new decor pieces.

I give you a quick home tour of my Valentine's Day decor in this new video linked below.
I hope you enjoy!

DIY Framed Valentine's Day Wood Sign

The Target Dollar Spot can be a very dangerous place... do you get sucked into it too?  I have a hard time staying away.  Sometimes I even go into Target just to check out the dollar spot.  This particular shopping trip I picked up a cute wood "Happy Valentine's Day" cutout.  I knew I wanted to try making a wood sign with it.  This is my version.

I have the beloved farmhouse style going on in my house and so wanted to keep it simple.  I've also been adding that galvanized metal texture here and there to pull in that wood and metal look.  So I did a faux metal paint technique to the wood cut out and added it to a framed wood sign giving it that wood and metal combo look.

I share with you in my video linked below how this whole piece came together.
I hope you enjoy!

Aging Hardware with a Blow Torch

Sometimes you love things, but then for some reason just wished you loved them more.  That's how I felt about the pallet chalkboard I made for above my kitchen cabinets.  It was exactly what I wanted but was missing something.

I was at good old Walmart and found these flat L brackets and wished they weren't so shiny so I could put them on my chalkboard.  I started researching ways to make them not so flashy and after ruling out regular spray paint I found that you could take a blow torch to burn off the shiny zinc that coated the metal.  LUCKY ME, I had a blow torch and knew I could handle that!

This is not a project for the beginner.  If you've never used a blow torch before, give yourself some time to get used to it before attempting this.  SAFETY is always important when using a blow torch too.  I explain and show you how to attempt this DIY in my video tutorial below.
I hope you enjoy!

DIY Super Bowl Party

I love parties and I love to plan parties every chance I get!  When the Super Bowl rolled around, I could have made food and everyone would have been happy, Super Bowls are all about the food, right?  However, not for me and not in my house.  I have to make it "cute" and "fun" and "festive."

The best part about it all was outside of all the food and ingredients, all the decorating maybe cost about $20 give or take.  Here's how I did it.  I used what I had.  I hit the Dollar Tree.  I used FREE printables to accessorize.
Here is a link to my Party Ideas Pinterest board if you'd like to see where I found some of the items you see here.

I went ahead and did a party tour video to share with you some of the ideas I used in our own Super Bowl party.  I hope that you find it helpful and inspires you!
Here's the video - hope you enjoy!

DIY Nursery Name Blocks

These wooden name blocks are so adorable hanging in a nursery!  I've even had clients use them for baby shower decor.  I've made them so they are easily hang on a wall displayed or they can sit on a shelf or dresser to add that extra touch to personalize a space.

These are the very first set of girl names blocks I've made.  I have made several for boys, so it was fun to make something for a girly girl room.

I used 1x4's for this project and cut them 5,5" tall.  I share with you in the video linked below how these cute little blocks were made start to finish.
I hope you enjoy!

IKEA FINTORP - Farmhouse Style

When decor can also double as storage, you've got yourself a winning combo!  The end of my kitchen island cabinet was looking quite "blah."  I always thought it would be the perfect place to hang some hooks or something.  Pinterest inspired me to grab one of these FINTORP rails the last shopping trip through there.  (Can I just say how much I LOVE IKEA too!)

After installing this simple little solution about a week ago now, I must say I just love it!  It's handy, it's storage, and it's cute.  It fits right in with my decor and gives the space some life.

If you don't have an IKEA or just hate the thought of shopping there (because you need a couple hours to spend there at least, every time you go), then I share with you in my newest DIY video a great inexpensive alternative to the IKEA Fintorp.
Hope you enjoy!
