Sometimes, you just have to hit that scrap pile of wood. Amazing things can come from those left overs! I had a short piece of 2x4 hanging around and thought they would make some cute blocks for spring and Easter.
I've been going for a more neutral Easter decor in my home this year, instead of all the pastels. That's what inspired the black, white, and gray look for these little cuties.

I had this project on my to do list for a very long time. When our son was born we did without a coffee table so he had carpet to play on (most of our home is hardwood floors, so we only had a 5'x7' rug in the living room). Our little guy is about to turn 4 years old now and he's all over the place now. Finally it was time to add back a coffee table.
There are so many different styles and tutorials so I found one that was sort of inexpensive but still had to look I was wanting. After giving our end tables a makeover (see that transformation HERE), I wanted the coffee table to look like it matched and flowed. I used the same paint and the same wood stain and it all came together beautifully!
I love the big wire basket with the liner underneath too! I found that beauty at Hobby Lobby. We needed a place for blankets and it's worked perfectly! It's easy to pull them out and put them away and it's all nicely hidden when not needed.
For this build we used mainly 2x2's. The top is made from different width wood I had in the garage to give it a random barnwood look (all are 1x's). The great part about it is it's very inexpensive to build. 2x2's are less than $2.00 each and I think we used 4 of them. The top was scrap for me, but you could use 2- 1x8's which are under $6.00 each. So total: $20.00 in wood!
This was a joint effort build for me and my hubby. Yes, sometimes he likes to get in on the power tool action too, and I guess I should let him, right? Ha!

This is a little bit more of a modern farmhouse style version of an Easter wood sign. Very simple, yet perfectly rustic. Great with any decor with it's neutral tones.
This wood sign started with a dark wood stain, and once I added a chalk paint white wash it transformed into this beautiful piece!

Another YouTuber asked me to do a Dollar Tree collaboration, and how could I turn that down? Only rule was, everything you use had to be from the Dollar Tree. I nearly got away from getting everything from there; however this wreath needed burlap as a base and my Dollar Tree was out of their burlap on the roll. I did already have some burlap by the yard at home already luckily.
The supplies I used for this wreath were:
14" wire wreath form
burlap
16 succulent picks
spanish moss
hot glue & glue gun
scissors
wire cutters
This was a super easy DIY projects. It takes a little time and a lot of hot glue. In the end I love how it turned out! I have been these wreaths online for $50, $100, $150+. My Dollar Tree version cost me under $20 to make from Dollar Tree supplies!
When you make wood sign for yourself and it hangs on the wall for 2 months blank...
Yep, I totally did that.
This wood sign is in our entry and can be seen from just about everywhere - kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, kids room... so I took me a long time to decide what exactly I wanted it to look like and say.
I saw this saying on a few Pinterest posts and I just kept coming back to it. I needed it to be the right fonts and look nice and balanced so it took even longer for me to get the design right. Sometimes the things we make for ourselves are harder than those we make for client's requests.
In the end, I LOVE it and so glad that I took the time to get it right.
This wood signs measures 18" tall and 40" wide. I used white and black chalkboard paint as well as Jacobean wood sign (my fav!).

When you buy a storage system and never get around to refinishing it like you planned... years and year later. This was definitely one of those projects. I bought this unfinished wood storage piece YEARS ago from Michael's Arts and Crafts (when I worked there). I knew it would look very cool painted and fixed up, but it never got there. In my deffense, I did use it! It served a lot of different purposes around the house. It just never got a paint makeover.
After going down the rabbit hole of redecorating our kid's bedroom, I had this slim space next to the bunk bed and their bedroom door. We needed a place to put things and the table there was WAY too big, but it worked for awhile. Then I saw this piece, which was holding all of my acrylic paints, sitting in the laundry room and thought - that would be perfect for the space!
So I found a new home for my acrylic paint bottle and got to work on their new basket storage. I share with you in the video below just how it all came to life. My little guy even got to help paint. He loves to help! I love that he gets to help with something that is for his room.
I have really gotten away from vinyl wood signs lately. I've been focusing on stenciling wood signs in that pallet, reclaimed, rustic look and feel. When a client asked for 4 super hero wood signs, I knew stenciling wasn't the way to go. A clean, crisp look was much more the look I needed to go for.
I had learned in my son's wood signs project (you can see that "oops" here) that I needed to seal the paint before vinyling. I had big mistakes to fix on my son's wood signs, and I did not want that to happen again. So I gave these signs a couple of coats of paint and then went over that with a matte clear vanish. This technique worked perfectly! No paint peeling up and the vinyl stuck great!

We just recently combined our son and daughter's bedrooms. My son was always in our daughter's room anyway, so we figured getting bunk beds and giving each of them their own space was the way to go.
Our daughter is very trendy and was into the whole tribal look with arrows, black/gold/teal. I wanted their room to mesh together nicely even though they each would have their own theme. I decided black and white would be their base colors, teal accents for my daughter and red accents for me son. The room as a whole has a black and white theme and their bedding has the colors.
My daughter already had all the cool decor for her walls; however, my son was going from fire trucks to an adventure theme and we were starting over with him. That's where these new mod signs came into play.
The rooms is a good size, but I wanted to keep the decor simple and not let the room get too over cluttered with stuff or wall decor. The set of three wood signs I share with you in the video tutorial below, were the perfect size to fill the space, simple in design, and custom made for the space. I just love love love how they turned out! I hope you find inspiration from them too!
Grateful. Blessed. Thankful. All three of these words are powerful. Words I know that I wish I felt more every day. We all sort of go through the motions of day to day living. Sometimes we over look the things that are so "normal" yet, really are blessings.
Many of my wood signs serve as a reminder. A reminder that serves as home decor and art. Pieces that can be seen each day, read, and then remind of it's message. In this case, to be grateful, to remember our blessings, and to be thankful for them.
Today, I am all of these things for so many different reasons. This sign may be going to a client and to their home, but I am blessed to have a blog and YouTube channel to remind me of the work I put into it's creation. I am also grateful and thankful to have viewers and clients who can enjoy my art.

Recently I have gotten a lot of questions about the tools that I use. As you've seen in my DIY tutorials on YouTube, most I am using tools out in my workshop. Whether it's building something or creating wood signs, you'll see me using several things. I wanted to break down the most used tools and items that I use out in my workshop regularly.
I also share with you tools that I started out with when I was first getting into wood working. Of course I've kept up with this hobby and have upgraded my tools over time. In this video I share with you, not only the tools that I have and use now, but also the tools I started out with and suggestions for you if you are just getting started yourself.

This really is a traditional pallet wood sign, just with a fun twist. I used varying sizes of new common board (pine) and cut them to different length. The result really is a beautiful look. It is rustic and elegant all at once.
My long time friend asked me to make this for her beautiful home. I was able to see the wall where it will soon have it's home and it's just the perfect fit.
I really enjoyed making this wood sign. It was not one I had done before, but it also wasn't far from the regular pallet signs I've made in the past. Sometimes you just need someone else to create some inspiration for you, and this did just that. Many ideas came from this creation.

My handmade wood trough has seen all kinds of different decor. It goes hand in hand with the rest of my home's change of decor based on the holiday and season. My favorite really is when I decorate it for Christmas (you can see it here in my Christmas Home Tour). After Christmas came down, all it has were plain chalk painted mason jars. I love them, but I knew I'd want to put something in them eventually. My first thought was hydrangeas. I just didn't have any and couldn't find any that I was thrilled with.
Then spring decor hit Dollar Tree. I found some amazing succulent picks. These things go for $5 or more at most craft stores. So I grabbed four of the picks and two potted succulent plants and just pulled the succulent out of the pot. This was so I didn't have two of the same thing. Even though they are fake, you don't want them looking fake. Having two that are exactly the same just doesn't happen in nature.
I had some white stone rocks from Hobby Lobby already in my stash (but you can find these at the Dollar Tree too!). You can't get much better than a dollar for floral foam too that was from the Dollar Tree.
This whole project went pretty quickly and painlessly! We know how some DIY projects can go. It is even better than I had hoped it would turn out and I'm loving it even more than the idea of the hydrangeas.

My little guy's 4th birthday just happens to fall right on Easter day this year. It is pretty convenient since we would be together with family this day anyway. However, it also gives me a reason to vamp up this year's Easter decor. The best part, I can keep the Easter decor up and have it ready well before it's party time.
I did a huge shopping day of hunting to see what the different stores all had this year. I wanted to stick with the farmhouse rustic vibe, but also cute for my little guy. I think I was able to find some pretty great stuff. I was impressed with Target's Dollar Spot. Lots of beautiful glass items that were great for spring, not just Easter.

The client that I was able to create this wood art for I also was able to build wood floating shelves for and also wood name blocks. This new mom-to-be's nursery is a custom beautiful place for their new baby and I just love that I could help create that!
Without being in the room or seeing pictures I was told the colors (a creamy gray and coral). I was also told about the crib and also that the room had white trim throughout. I knew right away that I wanted to do a white washing technique. She loved the idea and I ran with it. The shelves, and the background of the wood name blocks all match this beautiful wood sign I created for above the crib.
