BIG Red, White & Blue Haul

It does feel a little like I went a little crazy this year on the 4th of July decor.  In my defense, I really didn't have much to start with.  Also, I blame Target Dollar Spot, HA!

I found some great deals, and a few stores that didn't have such great deals or decor for that matter.  The stores that I bought these goodies include: Target, Dollar Tree, Michael's, and Old Time Pottery (a local store).  I share with you in the video below where I purchased each item and give you a detailed looked.

I can't wait to add these items to my farmhouse style decor.  I hope the items that you see in my haul also inspire you!

DIY Layered Vinyl Wood Sign

When I was asked to create coordinating wood signs for a bother shared bedroom, I knew it was going to be such a cute and sweet project!  They have a super hero themed room and the mom gave me the colors.  I decided to do the same sign, but in verse colors.  This kept them coordinated yet also kept each sign unique to each boy.

Layering vinyl makes the wording and font pop.  I like to do this when colors seem to blend together too much.  The white background allows the red to be read more easily as well.  I always use Oracal 651 for my wood signs and cut it on my Silhouette Cameo.  The settings I like to use are:
Blade:3
Thickness: 8
Speed: 8

I hope this helps make your next vinyl project have that little extra pop it needs so the colors don't all blend together.  I've included a tutorial for the above wood sign.  You'll see this sign being made from raw wood to finished wall decor.  I hope you are inspired!

DIY TeePee Shelf

When it comes to creating wood projects that aren't square, I sort of get a little anxious.  This set up looked pretty simple so I gave it a try.  Once I figured out my miter saw and how to get the angels right for this shelf, it all came together very quickly.  You'll need 3 angels for this project, 0*, 20*, and 50*.  Not too scary, right?  A nail gun makes this shelf's assembly go quickly as well.

I love that this shelf can be painted or stained to match your style.  I've seen some really cute pink ones for nurseries, stained ones for living rooms and entries, this one happens to be in my kid's bedroom and the black and white matches their theme.

I hope that you give this project a try!  I include all the instructions in the video tutorial below.
I hope you are inspired!

Spring Mantel Tour

I recently went on a shopping trip looking for new spring items for our mantel.  When I took down all of the Easter decor it all just looked very plain, boring, and there were some holes here and there that I really wasn't happy with.  If you missed my HAUL VIDEO you can here HERE to see where I purchased many of the items you'll see in the tour video below.

Not only will you get to see my updated spring mantel, but you'll also get to see some bonus footage of my styled coffee table centerpiece and our puppy's new toy basket in use.
Click the video below and I hope you are inspired!

BIG Spring Decor Haul

I guess I missed the spring decor train.  Since our son's birthday was on Easter Sunday this year I went a little crazy decorating for Easter and not spring.  Once Easter was over, all the bunnies and eggs came down and everything just looked a little bare.  I was missing that spring feel and felt that it was something our home just really needed.

Now that it is the middle of May I felt like it was maybe too late to keep the spring feel around for too long.  I went with a little different approach since summer is right around the corner.  I tried to keep with the farmhouse feel and look, keep a few pastels around, and find a look that would work for spring and summer.

I was able to find some great decor pieces at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and Marshall's.  I give you a look into my big spring decor shopping haul in the video linked below.  I hope you are inspired!

DIY Bleached Drop Cloth Fabric

There are several projects I can't wait to do with these drop cloths!  They are all decor related.  The problem I have with the drop cloth straight out of the package, is the color.  Our walls are painted a very similar color and to hang the drop cloth next to the wall, it just blends right in.  I decided to go ahead and bleach the drop cloth to take the coloring out.  Not only does it remove the color, but it also softens the fabric so it has a more cotton cozy feel as apposed to the thick stiff feel straight out of the wrapper.

I give you a run down of the process I used to bleach two drop cloths at the same time in the video tutorial below.  I hope you are inspired!

DIY Photo Block | Mother's Day Gift

Mother's Day is Sunday!  If you are needing a last minute gift idea, I have the one for you!  I used scrap 2"x 6" I had in my workshop and created this simple yet beautiful table top photo holder.  The best part of this project is that it is so versatile!  It's easy to give this idea a whole new look with paint color and by changing the message on the side.  Add your kid's names, change mom to Grandma, add a cute accent such as a bow or twine.  The possibilities are endless!  Get creative!  Think about mom (or mother figure) that will be receiving your handmade gift while design it.

The video tutorial below covers all the details of all you need to make this simple photo block.
I hope you are inspired!

DIY Let's Stay Home Framed Wood Sign

I love when I get on a roll and can keep going and going with my projects.  I've had a few days in a roll like that.  After our yard sale last weekend I have this fear of getting behind on my work and so I tend to over-compensate.  This sign was not on my to do list, but it just sort of happened.  I am so glad it did!  It's my first reverse wood sign.  I don't think that's an actual real thing, but it is just that.  I usually do a white background and then stained wood frame.  This cute little sign got a white frame and a dark stained background instead.  It is so very cute this way!

I created a DIY tutorial to share with you how to create a sign like this yourself.
I hope you are inspired!

DIY Easy Burlap Pillow Cover

I love quick and easy DIY's.  This one is one of those.  It's no-sew, cheap, easy, and transforms a plain pillow into a new look.

The best thing about this simple DIY is that it can be adjusted to your own style.  I used burlap I had on a roll for this tutorial.  However, this would be so great to do with ribbon, fabric, or other colors of burlap too!

I included a quick DIY tutorial to show you just how you can create a pillow cover sleeve of your own.  I hope you are inspired!

Dollar Tree Haul - Pet Supplies and Cool Finds!

Meet the newest member of our family, Maverick!  He is such a sweetie pie!  He is always giving wet sloppy kisses and loves to snuggle.  We rescued him from our local Humane Society.  He's a precious 10 month old German Shepard / Labrador mix.

I am an avid Dollar Tree shopper.  We have never had a dog so I've never even looked at the pet section of the store.  I would just waltz right by it.  I really didn't know what they even had there for dogs.  I was surprised by my trip there today when our smaller scale Dollar Tree actually had a great selection of pet items!  Of course I had to do some puppy spoiling so I picked up quite a few items for him.

Along the way I also found some great summer items, Mothers' Day, and 4th of July things as well!  Check out my video below where you will not only get to see my shopping haul, but also meet our puppy Maverick!  I hope you enjoy!

DIY Rae Dunn Inspired Wood Signs

I may not be as big of a Rae Dunn collector as some, but I do have my fair share of mugs and a few other pieces.  It matches my decor so nicely that I just couldn't help to get into the hype of it all.  It also doesn't hurt that you have to go out and hunt it down, and the feeling of success when you do find a piece is sort of addictive.  If you don't enjoy treasure hunts (at TJ Max, Home Goods, and Marshall's to name a few places) then you can pay 100 x's the cost on Ebay.  I'm not exaggerating either.  I don't need anything enough to pay those crazy prices. I will stick to hunting when I'm out and about and enjoy the scavenger hunt every now and again.  If you are an Ebay buying, I so envy you.  I sure would love to have some of those unicorns if I had an unlimited amount of money to spend.

Any-who, onto the these Rae Dunn inspired wood signs.  If you can't have all the clay you want, you sure can create some of your own.  These wood signs are so cute and sort of silly.  It's a play on the RD obsession.  Let's celebrate that with some fun home decor!  I share with you in the video tutorial below all the details of how these two signs were created.  I used the "The Skinny" font, which you can google and get for free, yay!  I hope you are inspired!

DIY Mini Shelf with Key Hooks

I love our entry.  It has a beautiful reclaimed bench, hooks for coats, hooks for backpacks, baskets for papers and mail.  I recently added a wood clock and it was just needing something under it.  We had a place for our keys in another location; however, it was not near the front door, it was in the kitchen.  It was a little bit of a walk and we were known for walking back and forth when we walked for the front door and realized we didn't have our keys in hand.  That's where this shelf idea was born.

I wanted something smaller in scale and something simple.  I also stained it to match the bench and floating shelves in the entry to create a "matching set."  It really has been a great addition to the space and we are glad to have a place for our sunglasses and such on the top shelf as well now too.

The video tutorial I created below shows all the details of this build.
I hope you are inspired!
